Slouch Hat

I know I am on a hat kick...so I got my little one to model this cute slouch hat. The truth be told she would never wear this colour. She finds brown boring. And nothing glitters. Not worth it in her six year old eyes. Oh well.....mama tried. I am now offering these in my shop. (Minus the glitter).

Shipping Out

Orders ready to be shipped. It always makes me think about the home they are going to. Where will they live? A drawer or a hook? Will they become the person's favourite scarf? Will they travel on a train to work or wisk through the city on a bike? I wish they could write me a letter telling me about their new life and their new adventures. But I need to let them go...and know they are loved.

New Pillows

I am in such a pillow mood. Loving making this simple pillows with fabric hearts. I had a customer last week make a special order for one of these pillows with "you make me happy." stitched on the front. How sweet.... I think these would also make nice nursery pillows with some sweet designs on them....hmmmmmm. What do you think?

The Comforts of Home

I am a real homebody. I love to stay at home....sometimes a bit too much. There is nothing like snuggling up in my big bed, with my doggie next to me, sipping tea and knitting....to me that is heaven. What do you love about your home?

This was an order for a lovely customer from Norway. So cool that something I created is going to live in a place that I have never been. I hope it adds to her comfort of home.....

And the colours.....so beautiful. Is it weird I want to print this picture and frame it? I may even hang it next to my children's.....oh I know I have a problem.

I am very excited about my new plan. Every month one piece in my shop will be my 'charity piece' and all my profits from that piece will be donated to a different charity.

So Sweet

This summer I worked with a local photographer who used some of my hats in her pictures. If you have ever tried to photograph a newborn you know how hard it is. I thought she did an amazing job. Aren't they just the sweetest things? I love making tiny newborn hats but sometimes the sizing can be tricky.  That is why I tend to give blankets as baby gifts as you can't go wrong with the size.

Have a great weekend.....hoping to do some fall things this weekend and finally photograph some new pieces I have for my shop www.grizzlie.etsy.com !

Complete!

Don't you just love completing a project? Almost as much fun as starting one. The baby came early so I had to work fast, but got it to him in time. Not sure in time for what exactly since he is only a few days old. Can't even focus, never mind appreicate my fancy stitch work.....oh well. One day it might even become "the blankie", but no pressure little guy.....

Come visit me on Raverly.....I am Grizzlie Knits :) Love that place....

What are you working on?

Today I am trying to finish this sweet baby blanket. I think I started it too big and now the length needs to catch up with the width. I thought I had two more weeks but the little sweetie decided to show up early. I am loving crocheting this but I have to admit it is taking a long time. I think it will be worth it in the end. I am enjoying these three colours together. My goal is to finish it tonight or in the morning, and tomorrow sew in the ends and make the boarder. If only I had more than two hands!

I'm Back!!!!!!

Hey everyone! So sorry for my absence....but I am back now. and boy...oh boy, have I been knitting up a storm. I don't want to overload you....so we will begin small and progress from there. I have missed this little blog of mine. Afterall, who is going to care about my projects if not for you? Who else wants to see unfinished knitting and crocheting items? Who else won't judge me on my obsession of buying and storing yarn? I know you won't....that is why I am back.

This is my new colour that I am in love with for fall. A customer ordered my Canuck scarf in fig. Love the name....love the colour.....

I can't wait to show you more new items on my shop, ideas in the works, patterns I have written and found, new shops that I just have to give you the links for......and so much more. We can talk about knitting all day, right?   Although, I have to go and start dinner.....

See you later and have a lovely evening....feels good to be back.

Bamboo and Silk

I just love it when I get contacted by a customer who wants me to do something I have never done before. It is sooo exciting!  A lovely customer wanted me to knit her something in bamboo silk. I had two balls of it in my stash (the exact colour she wanted!) and couldn't wait to get started. Here is the result....

It turned out soooo soft and beautiful. I am offering it in six colours. Ivory, Coal, Almond, Moss, Sea, and Orchid. Perfect texture, weight and colours for the spring. I am now working on matching wrist warmers!
The problem is I have so much I want to knit.....a baby sweater done from the top down that I just started, blankets, pillows.....I could go on and on......

Spring in TO

What a beautiful day we had in Toronto! We took the kids to a Maple Syrup Festival and it was so nice. Nothing like eating pancakes outside after a long winter!  Of course, I love seeing all the spring knits out and about. If only I had more time and two more hands to knit more!!!!

Here is the picture of the squares being joined. I have not tackled the ends yet. (Not a fun job!) I love the boarder and even the other side that doesn't have a boarder. Wish I had more time to work on it!!

Saturday 10 March 2012

It is starting to look like a blanket!

I thought I would check in and show the progress of my first granny square blanket. So excited it is starting to look like a blanket....but I have soooo many more squares to do.....will it ever end?

Here is my basket of yarn love.

Here are some finished blocked and not blocked squares. I am randomly picking out colours from the same seven balls of yarn. The last two rows of each granny square are always white. The great thing is I had all this yarn in my stash. So far I have only had to buy one extra ball of white.

And finally here is some squares joined together. I had a bit of trouble at first, but with some friendly help from You-Tube, I got the hang of it. Again, I am randomly grabbing a square to be joined, just making sure no identical squares are beside each other.

For some reason my picture won't download. You will have to just come back tomorrow to see the beginnings of a blanket and not just squares. But how will you sleep? I know...I know...but you will just have to wait.

One more thing. I think I have a problem. I want to begin another blanket. Like now. right away. The yarn is calling my name. It is even living in its own basket ready to be touched. I can't! I must finish this blanket, before my next. Oh.....it is so hard.

The Village

So sorry I haven't posted in awhile.....something funky was going on with my computer. But I am back and I have been busy...baby.  For awhile now I have wanted to take my knitting and crocheting to a whole new level. Making something into more of a fiber art, rather than something you wear. Lately, I have been so inspired by cottages, costal scenes and things that have a rustic charm to them. This is what I have been busy with......

Are you ready?

Introducing my new line of Fiber Art Wall Hangings....this one is called, "The Village"

Here is how it looks hanging on the wall of my kitchen.

It was so fun to create and make. I blended both knitting and crocheting and think it came out nice. All three of the kids commented how much they like it, and sometimes they can be brutally honest. One day I will tell you about the comments attached to my new haircut. But this blog is not about bitterness....

Visit my first art piece in my shop http://www.grizzlie.etsy.com/

Hope your weekend was filled with laughter and fun....and keeping warm.

Finishing Up Stuff

My goal was to finish up a bunch of projects this month and NOT buy any more yarn. For those knitters out there this is very hard.....but I have been good.  I had started this scarf for my little girl last winter....and found it tucked away at the back of the closet. So what did I do because I am being so good???? I finished it....and made a matching hat. She even wore it to school all week.

The yarn was from Patons called Twister and it knit up really nicely. The simple pattern I made up. If anyone is interested, just let me know and I will post it.
Yes, this is the month of getting down to business.....what is on your needles?

Wedding Fever

A lovely bride to be ordered one of my ring bearer pillows. It came out so sweet......her little nephew is going to carry it in the wedding!

Tin Cover

Remember I told you to check out Lucy at Attic24? Well she has been on a tin cover crochet kick, and I got the fever baby! I took a corn can and made the kids eat corn for dinner. Two out of three complied. My little girl wouldn't eat it even for the sake of my art. Nerve! Then I cleaned and measured the tin, and got hooking. The children were puzzled why I cared so much about the corn to make it a decorative cover. They even asked me if I was going to crochet covers for all our canned goods in the cupboard. Silly little kids....(maybe one day, but not now). I then bought a little basil plant and look what happened................

Isn't it sweet? Oh it makes me so happy............

And here it is again......I could do this all day.  I think its home will be by the sink. We will see how long it lasts without a ton of sun. I don't have many sunny windows in my house that are high up. Having a beagle means all food based products must be out of 'sniffs' reach.

Have a wonderful day. I actually see some sun today!!! Must walk little furry guy before it goes away for another week.
