New Snowflake Cowl

I am busy working on new pieces for fall and winter!  Which is crazy as our summer just began last week. We have a very short season here (you wouldn't know that by how many tank-tops I own) but we will begin to get cool again mid September. Even now I was outside and needed a little sweater! My newest piece is called snowflake and the pictures don't do it justice. It has tiny sparkles sewn into the yarn....reminds me of fresh, fallen snow. So pretty....

Personailized Pillow

New in the shop is my first crochet pillow. It is in a beautiful cream with a turquoise letter. I can see this in a shabby chic nursery with lot's of Victorian bedding and antique furniture.

I love when an idea comes to life and ends up in my shop! The next thrill is when someone buys it for a new baby on the way!

Pay It Forward

On Saturday I did something so fun. I listed a lovely grass green cowl for .20cents. A pay it forward item. The person who bought it had to either do a random act of kindness or if she owned an Etsy shop had to do the same thing. The cowl sold in four hours! So excited and loved doing it.......I am going to do this again so keep checking!

Baby Boy

Oh to knit for a sweet baby boy that hasn't come yet. This is a custom order for a good friend's cousin. She is expecting her third boy and I have knit sweaters for all three. Handknits are the things you put in the memory box. The types of things you pull out over time and can't believe they were ever that small!!! So special.

I decided to do a quick sweater knit in the round. They are usually called "5 hour sweaters" but I bet that lady did not have three kids, a dog and a hubby to take care of. Although it was quick, not THAT quick. The little hat was thrilling for me as I have finally mastered a crochet hat I can be proud of. The set is really sweet.

And of course my wooden buttons! Just love my wooden buttons. The yarn was Waverly by Bernat. I haven't used it before but I really liked it. I have a ball of yellow crying out to be used....another cute hat???

Crochet Love....

And the colours.....so beautiful. Is it weird I want to print this picture and frame it? I may even hang it next to my children's.....oh I know I have a problem.

Complete!

Don't you just love completing a project? Almost as much fun as starting one. The baby came early so I had to work fast, but got it to him in time. Not sure in time for what exactly since he is only a few days old. Can't even focus, never mind appreicate my fancy stitch work.....oh well. One day it might even become "the blankie", but no pressure little guy.....

What are you working on?

Today I am trying to finish this sweet baby blanket. I think I started it too big and now the length needs to catch up with the width. I thought I had two more weeks but the little sweetie decided to show up early. I am loving crocheting this but I have to admit it is taking a long time. I think it will be worth it in the end. I am enjoying these three colours together. My goal is to finish it tonight or in the morning, and tomorrow sew in the ends and make the boarder. If only I had more than two hands!

The Village

So sorry I haven't posted in awhile.....something funky was going on with my computer. But I am back and I have been busy...baby.  For awhile now I have wanted to take my knitting and crocheting to a whole new level. Making something into more of a fiber art, rather than something you wear. Lately, I have been so inspired by cottages, costal scenes and things that have a rustic charm to them. This is what I have been busy with......

It was so fun to create and make. I blended both knitting and crocheting and think it came out nice. All three of the kids commented how much they like it, and sometimes they can be brutally honest. One day I will tell you about the comments attached to my new haircut. But this blog is not about bitterness....

Tin Cover

Remember I told you to check out Lucy at Attic24? Well she has been on a tin cover crochet kick, and I got the fever baby! I took a corn can and made the kids eat corn for dinner. Two out of three complied. My little girl wouldn't eat it even for the sake of my art. Nerve! Then I cleaned and measured the tin, and got hooking. The children were puzzled why I cared so much about the corn to make it a decorative cover. They even asked me if I was going to crochet covers for all our canned goods in the cupboard. Silly little kids....(maybe one day, but not now). I then bought a little basil plant and look what happened................

Isn't it sweet? Oh it makes me so happy............

And here it is again......I could do this all day.  I think its home will be by the sink. We will see how long it lasts without a ton of sun. I don't have many sunny windows in my house that are high up. Having a beagle means all food based products must be out of 'sniffs' reach.

Granny Squares Gone Wild

As you know I am very new to the world of crochet. My last blanket was a giant granny square, because I didn't know how to stop it!  Well, this time I am making a whole lotta granny squares. The yarn I found is very soft and what I fell in love with right away was the colour. Does 'vintage pink' mean anything to you? It is so romantic and lovely. The plan right now is to make all these squares into a pillow. And then learn how to crochet a flower into the centre of some of them.

I am too ashamed to tell you how many projects I have on the go right now. So let's just say....February will be the month of finishing things...not starting things. What are you planning to finish in February?

I'm back.....

I am on the mend. Not a ton of energy, but out of bed and back to the real world. TV can get really boring when you watch a ton of it. Usually, I am lucky to watch one or two shows a day, but this was a marathon. All those channels and very little decent to watch! But of course I worked on my projects. My hubby checked on me and if I was up knitting he knew I was doing ok. If the knitting was beside me, and I was just lying there he knew it was time for more medicine! And of course when the kiddos came home from school, my room was the place to hang. Revisited some Harry Potters with them. Enough about sickness.....on to pictures!

I would like to introduce to you my first crochet project. It is basically a giant granny square with a boarder. I just kept on going because I didn't know what else to do!

I think she is going to like living on our old, but loved green couch. But it really isn't our couch anymore.

I have really loved working on this blanket.. Can't wait to show you my next crochet project!

Last Rainbow Post (I promise)

Well you might have not been sleeping at night in anticipation of the Rainbow Scarf saga. Did the little girl like it? How did it look in the end? Well here it is......

The little girl did like it. She liked it so much she asked where the matching hat was? (Oh my....I do feel sorry for her future husband). Anyway, I quickly made up a little hat to match.

Please do not look too closely at the attempt of a crocheted flower. I had such trouble following the pattern I had, in the end I winged it. I have so much to learn in the crochet world.....and it wasn't all going to happen last night at 10:00.  If you look real hard you can even see waffle crumbs. Why? Little girl loved it so much she wore it to breakfast. She thought the flower was beautiful.

So here it is. So glad it is over. Have you ever had a project you were glad to be finished with? But I have to say, when she walked into school this morning all decked out in it and her favourite teacher said, "Hi Rainbow girl" the look on her face was all worth it.

Rainbow Scarf the second

Well.....little girl came home yesterday, took one look at my lovely red beginning of the rainbow scarf and said it was not what she had in mind. She is five. I thought her mind was full of dolls and ways of tourmenting her brothers. I didn't realize fashion was also floating around in there. She told me she wanted a scarf that was a circle. I have been wearing my Canuck Twister in True Red around town this week and she really likes it. A circle scarf is amazing for kids as there are no ends to come loose and no knots to be made near a childs neck. So I began again..........

I am soooo loving making this crazy scarf. Crocheting is so neat and tidy.....and I haven't worked with bright colours in a long time. Already my head is in a spin and some other things I would like to make celebrating beautiful colurs!

Rainbows

My little girl is all about rainbows lately. She comes home from school and changes into her rainbow dress, rainbow tights and puts 5 headbands in her hair. So I wasn't shocked when she asked me to make her a rainbow scarf. At first it sounded easy....just get yarn the colours of the rainbow and start. Boy, was I wrong. To find the exact shades was a bit of a challenge. And of course the yarn had to be soft. But what about all those ends??? I don't mind so much sewing them in, but on a scarf it could get messy looking. After some research and a long think, I came up with the idea to do it long ways so the ends can desolve into tassely sort of things. The only yarn that I found with the exact rainbow colours was an acrylic. I wanted to do it with cotton, but a more chunkier look. So far I am really pleased with this type of acrylic which is having a cotton sort of feel.

Because I am new to the world of crochet I once again went on YouTube to watch a video on single crochet. There are amazing videos out there for those who want to learn.....

Look What I Got!!!!!

I am so excited to share with you my new purchase. Not only do I love being on Etsy but I also love buying on Etsy.  I came across the shop http://www.knitonebeadtwo.etsy.com/ and knew a huge problem may soon be solved. I contacted the lovely Molly and she came up with this beauty. A place to store ALL my needles straight and circular ones and my crochet hooks. No more looking for needles, or lost hooks. I love how it turned out. Not to mention this adorable bird and owl fabric on the outside and this sweet chocolate fabric on the inside. I am thrilled.....

Lacey Scarf

This is my first scarf since I learned to crochet. I love the big, lacey feel to it. I can see it with some hip boots and jeans giving an outfit a funky look. It has no wool in it for the sensitive kind of folks. Can't wait to make more in some other colours.....

2011 Goals.....

Lately I have been in a "do it" mood. Enough with writing my to do lists. Sometimes it seems that is all I do. I promised myself this fall was going to be different. So I......

1. Made a chalkboard in my kitchen. Or as the experts say a "communication" centre. (That right now I am not allowing the kids to touch, as it is so pretty)

2.Finally painted my fireplace white. I have wanted to do this the day we moved in eight years ago!!!!

3.Learn to crochet. Something I have wanted to learn for years. I am head over heels in love with it almost as much as knitting.

I must mention my hubby helped with the chalkboard, my boys helped with the fireplace, and countless You-Tube videos helped to teach me to crochet. Help to get a job done is a good thing!
